Mit dem Soundtrack zu "The Orville" bringt La La Land Records eine Zusammenstellung aus Musikstücken der 1. Staffel. Die Serie wird unter den Zuschauern als "Star Trek" bezeichnet, da sie Elemente aufgreift und bewusst eine Art humorvolle Hommage an der Kultserie ist. Genauso verhält es sich auch mit der Musik. Die Musik ist daher in einem recht ähnlichen Stil. Ein kleiner Höhepunkt für Trekkies dürfte Track 12 der 1. CD sein. John Debney orientiert sich hier ganz klar an James Horner. Das Stück erinnert recht stark an "Star Trek II: Der Zorn des Kahn", aber er lässt es sich nicht nehmen auch eine Prise "seaQuest" einzustreuen. Letzteres hat er selbst komponiert. Das Gefühl der Vertrautheit stellt sich daher bei jedem Stück ein. Das beliebte Titelthema fehlt natürlich auch nicht und ist folgerichtig auf Track 1 untergebracht. Das Thema stammt aus der Feder von Bruce Broughton, der u. a. auch die Titelmelodie von „JAG“ und „Die Dinos“ komponierte. Die Titel sind selten ruhig, sondern spannend und manchmal auch kämpferisch unterwegs. Die Action der Szenen wird auch gut für das Ohr übertragen. Die Musikstücke funktionieren auch wunderbar allein. Tipp: Am besten einen Science-Fiction-Roman schnappen und den Soundtrack als spannende Begleitung!
Wie für TV-Serien üblich sind die meisten Titel kurz und knappgehalten. Das liegt natürlich an der kurzen Spielzeit der Folgen, jedoch ist der Soundtrack alles andere als kurz. 2 CDs mit insgesamt 55 Titeln hat La La Land zusammengestellt. Die Produktion kommt auf eine stolze Gesamtspielzeit von fast 152 Minuten.
Das Set ist als CD und Download zu bekommen. Für Sammler lohnt sich natürlich die CD, da sie ein schön gestaltetes Booklet enthält. Die offizielle Seite des Labels hat ebenfalls einen Shop.
Fazit: Gelungen! Die Stücke sind, wie bei Serien üblich, kurz, doch das Flair und die Spannung der Serie wird auch übertragen, wenn nur der Soundtrack gehört wird. Für Sci-Fi-Fans und Freunder guter TV-Soundtracks ein Muss.
